The Elephant Orphanage Project Release Facility (supported by The David Shepherd Foundation)
A short drive away from Konkamoya is the release facility of The Game Rangers International Elephant Orphanage Project. This conservation project works closely with the Department of National Parks & Wildlife to rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild many different species of animal – including elephant. The release facility is where these orphans are released back into the wild, to join herds whose traditional migratory paths are close by. It is well worth a visit to understand the effects of poaching and human/wildlife conflict, and the work that GRI is doing within communities to educate and assist.
